Kado Privacy Policy

Kado is a Chrome extension by Command & Palette. Here is exactly what it does, and doesn't do, with your data.

1Your boards stay on your device

Your workspaces, lists, cards, links, notes, checklists, labels and reminders are stored only in your browser using Chrome's local extension storage. We don't have servers that receive or store this content, and we can't see it. Uninstalling Kado deletes this data from your browser. Site icons on your cards are drawn by Kado itself, so no request is sent to any icon service.

2What leaves your device

Only the following, and only for the purpose described.

License verification (Kado Pro)

When you enter a license key, Kado sends that key and a device label (for example, "Kado on macOS") to Polar (polar.sh), our payment and licensing provider, to activate and check it. Kado re-checks the key with Polar when you open the panel. No card content is sent.

Purchases

Clicking Buy opens a checkout page run by Polar, which processes your payment and billing details as the merchant of record under its own privacy policy. We receive your order details and email address from Polar so we can support your purchase. We never see your full card details.

Anonymous usage counts

Kado may send an anonymous count when a free-plan limit is reached or the Buy button is clicked: only the event name, which limit was involved (for example, "cards") and the Kado version. No personal identifiers, no browsing data and no card content. We use these counts only to improve Kado's free and Pro plans.

3What we don't do

We don't sell or transfer your data to third parties, except as described above to run Kado.

We don't use your data for advertising or for purposes unrelated to Kado.

We don't use your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending.

We don't track the websites you visit.

4Permissions Kado uses

  • sidePanel

    Shows the board in Chrome's side panel.

  • storage

    Saves your boards locally in your browser.

  • tabs

    Reads the title and address of a tab when you save it, and checks on your device which saved pages are already open, so ↗ can switch to that tab instead of opening a duplicate. This information never leaves your browser.

  • contextMenus

    Adds "Add to Kado" to the right-click menu.

  • alarms

    Schedules the reminders you set on cards.

  • notifications

    Shows a notification when a reminder is due.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
